Ethan Gates

Belle Plaine native Ethan Gates has been named an insurance agent for Lynville-Sully based First State Insurance. His territory will include the Belle Plaine, Marengo, Victor, Chelsea and Brooklyn areas.

Gates is a 2019 graduate of Belle Plaine High School and 2022 graduate of Coe College, Cedar Rapids, where he received a degree in business. He has been an active part of the family farm near Belle Plaine for nearly 10 years and is the fifth generation of farmers on their land. He was looking for work in the Belle Plaine area when the opportunity arose to be a remote agent for First State Insurance.

Being a remote agent means there won’t be a central office for customers to walk in to. While this is different from what people are used to, Gates notes he looks forward to the opportunity to visit customers at their place. He feels when it comes to farm insurance, understanding the operation is key and the best way to get a grasp on the operation is by seeing it firsthand. In addition, he is available via phone to provide customer service.

Gates’ primary focus is crop insurance, while offering farm, home, auto and liability insurance as well. He can be reached at 319-530-7780 or via email at [email protected].
