The Department of Finance is dedicated to offering a conceptually grounded, quality education for a broad community of learners. The department is committed to providing a foundation for lifelong learning and enhanced professional and intellectual growth for our community of students, faculty, business and alumni.

Academic Program

The Department of Finance offers courses in banking and corporate finance, behavioral finance, financial planning and analysis, institutional asset management, wealth management, financial management and control, investment management and managerial finance.

The Department’s undergraduate programs include degrees in finance and actuarial sciences. Additionally, the Finance Department offers a range of graduate degree programs, including an MBA in Finance, a Master of Science in Computational Finance, a Master of Science in Finance, and a
Master of Science in Enterprise Risk Management, all through the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

A Bridge Between Academia and the Industry

Located in the heart of Chicago’s financial district, the department positions itself as a bridge between academia and the industry. The department houses three research centers, each pursuing a separate field of financial research and engagement:

  • The John L. Keeley Jr. Center for Financial Services has deep ties with the financial services and banking community in Chicago, including 11 major Chicago-based banks as member institutions. The center hosts numerous conferences and partnerships, including a long-standing two-day event with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

  • The Arditti Center for Risk Management’s mission is to promote the education, research, and practice of all things risk, including financial, strategic, operational, cyber, and enterprise-wide risk. It houses the actuarial science degree program and its hallmark event is the annual Cyber Risk Conference.

  • The Driehaus Center for Behavioral Finance pursues the research of behavioral finance, financial decision-making, and the psychology of finance.

In conjunction with these and other industry connections, U.S. News & World Report ranked DePaul overall among the nation’s top 10 universities for internships, which provide students the opportunity to gain practical experience and career connections in the business world (2012).

DePaul University also was the highest ranked Chicago business college in BloombergBusinessweek’s 2014 national rankings of undergraduate business programs (No. 64 ranking).
