A 14-year-old Boston eighth grader has launched her own beauty product company. Juliris Montalvo of Boston is a budding entrepreneur, with her new line of lip gloss, under the brand Juli’s Beauty. She has a website, and she created the products and the packaging.”The base is already made, so I just put the color, the scent, the pigment, the glitter,” said Montalvo. And her business is a reality, in large part, due to her teachers at the Jeremiah Burke Middle School Academy.”I’m so proud of her because it teaches so many things that, like, might not necessarily be measured, but, like, the grit, you know, and the perseverance – these are our core values at the Burke,” said academy leader Ayesha Hoda.Teachers like Hoda connected Montalvo with the nonprofit group GripTape, which offers young people a 10-week self-designed learning experience, a mentor and up to $500 to pursue a passion project. Now Montalvo is selling her homemade lip gloss to classmates, teachers, family, friends and maybe some Channel 5 viewers.”I just wanted to try something new.
