Guide for Big Data, Business Intelligence & Analytics for Small Business

In the past, business intelligence was a privilege of large companies who could afford to maintain teams of IT specialists and data scientists. But in the last decade, as technology has developed rapidly, the software has become not only more lightweight and powerful but also more accessible. Small businesses can use the same tools as main market players and face their competitors. New self-service tools prove that business intelligence is no rocket science but rather a useful tool to help to turn data into informed decisions. Now every company can harness the power of modern BI software to raise their bottom line since business intelligence for small business has become accessible and affordable. But what exactly makes business intelligence indispensable?

To get started in this journey, it is essential to know that BI can be adapted to any business model or industry. We have seen in our other blog posts,

Sigma Computing Makes the Data-Driven Marketing Dream a Reality with New Analytics and Business Intelligence Templates

SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Sigma Computing, an innovator in cloud-native analytics and business intelligence (A&BI), is powering data-driven marketing teams with new templates. Rather than toggling between dashboards in countless tools, marketers can now easily aggregate data into a single dashboard and analyze it themselves for richer, more impactful insights.

“Sigma’s new templates make it easy for marketers to take advantage of all their data quickly and finally get a complete picture of the customer journey,” said Candace Ng, President, IT Strategists. “Marketers have been missing out on transformative insights because their data is spread across multiple platforms. With Sigma, marketers can easily spot trends, patterns, and correlations others miss and a single insight has the power to transform a business.”

Frank Bell from IT Strategists will host a webinar entitled “Integrate & Analyze: How to Become a Modern Marketer” on Thursday, May

Exit Strategies for Your Business

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.

Entrepreneurs live for the struggle of launching their businesses. But one thing they often forget is that decisions made on day one can have huge implications down the road. You see, it’s not enough to build a business worth a fortune; you have to make sure you have an exit strategy, a way to get the money back out.

For those of you who like to plan ahead–and for those of you who don’t but should–here are the five primary exit strategies available to most entrepreneurs:

The Modified Nike Maneuver: Just Take It. One favorite exit strategy of some forward-thinking business owners is simply to bleed the company dry on a daily basis. I don’t mean run it in the red–I mean pay yourself a huge salary, reward yourself with a gigantic bonus regardless of actual company performance, and issue a special

Business intelligence and data warehousing team structure

How do most people structure BI/DW teams? Who do we want on the team? What’s the typical chain of command? Are they part of the IT department?

Business intelligence/data warehousing teams are constructed quite differently from shop to shop. The most common placement is within IT, although recently I’ve noticed more in the CFO’s area instead.

In business intelligence and data warehousing teams, there is a Director, a Technical Lead (which is somebody that oversees the architecture and can roam into multiple of the other positions), ETL developers (typically mutliple of these) and data access developers. Data modelers may also be a distinct role, or modeling may be done by the Technical Lead. Business analysis is required and may be done by the modeler in small shops. The Physical DBA/System Admininstration needs are generally done by service level agreement (SLA) with those core

You’re More Important Than Your Business Plan

“Would you take a look at my business plan?”

Some member of our staff at Echoing Green, an angel investor and grantmaker in social enterprise, hears this request every week. And we are often happy to review these start-up plans — which include the typical elements such as a product description, competitive analysis, estimate of market size, and projected financials. But we are interested in much more than these traditional plans. We use other criteria to find new people and ideas that can create large-scale social change.

In short, the business plan is overrated.

Like the vast majority of start-ups, most new social enterprises are bootstrapping efforts. As Amar Bhide said in “Bootstrap Finance: The Art of Start-ups” (a 20-year-old HBR article that is an uncanny precursor to today’s “lean startup” meme), traditional business planning processes are less relevant to bootstrappers — where resilience trumps planning and energy trumps experience.

Pet Insurance – Compare Over 150 Insurance Policies

Who offers pet insurance in Australia?

Canstar’s most recent pet insurance star ratings report collated more than 2,600 quotes to compare 81 policies from 19 providers to determine which ones offer outstanding value for pet owners. To be eligible to be rated, a provider had to meet the following criteria:

  • Had to be available directly to the consumer through its website and not just through an affiliated organisation, e.g. pet shop.
  • Had to be a standalone cover, e.g. not pet cover as an additional extra to home and contents insurance.

The following pet insurance providers were included in our 2015 pet insurance comparison.

1300 Insurance was founded in 2008 as an affordable, Australian insurance provider for individuals, families and businesses. 1300 Insurance offer Accident Only cover (Protect), Accident and Illness cover (Pet Protect), and Comprehensive Accident, Illness and Routine Care cover.
